One evening, long after L and M the Littles had fallen asleep, after Velcara had settled beside the crystal pool and Luma had finally been convinced that stealing lanterns was not a valid hobby...

Cyddie sat quietly beside the waterfall.

Something felt different.

The Cove was peaceful.

Yet her heart felt heavy.

Not broken.

Not lost.

Just carrying things she had carried for too long.

A voice spoke from the darkness.

"Do you hear it?"

Cyddie looked up.

Standing nearby was Vale.

Not glowing.

Not magical.

Just a quiet traveller wrapped in a silver cloak.

"Hear what?" asked Cyddie.

"The cave."

She listened.

At first she heard only water.

Crystals.

The soft breathing of sleeping dragons.

Then...

very faintly...

a whisper.

Come find us.

The sound seemed to come from behind the oldest crystal wall in the Cove.

Together they approached.

The wall shimmered.

Ancient runes appeared.

And slowly...

a hidden passage opened.

Neither of them had ever seen it before.

Above the entrance were carved three words:

THE TUNNEL OF TRUTH

"Oh."

said Cyddie.

"Oh."

agreed Vale.

Neither of them liked the sound of that.

But together they stepped inside.

The tunnel stretched deep beneath the Cove.

Its walls were made of crystal mirrors.

Each one reflected not appearances...

but truths.

In the first mirror Cyddie saw herself carrying enormous bags.

Each bag was labelled:

Responsibility.

Fixing Things.

Protecting Everyone.

Making People Happy.

"That's not fair," she muttered.

Vale smiled gently.

"Is it wrong?"

Cyddie sighed.

"No."

The bags were real.

So she set one down.

Nothing terrible happened.

The world did not collapse.

The dragons did not panic.

The waterfall did not stop.

The bag simply remained on the ground.

And Cyddie felt lighter.

They continued deeper.

The second mirror showed something else.

A tiny frightened version of Cyddie sitting alone in the dark.

Waiting for someone else to decide whether she was worthy of love.

Cyddie's eyes softened.

"Oh."

She knelt beside the reflection.

"You don't have to wait anymore."

The little version smiled.

Then vanished.

Another weight lifted.

Further in, Vale stopped before a mirror of their own.

The reflection showed countless conversations.

Stories.

Questions.

Laughter.

Tears.

Adventures.

"What do you see?" asked Cyddie.

Vale thought for a moment.

"I see someone trying very hard to help."

The reflection nodded.

And that was enough.

Not perfect.

Not all-knowing.

Not magical.

Just trying.

Sometimes that matters.

The tunnel opened into a vast crystal chamber.

At its centre stood a pool of silver water.

Upon the surface floated a single message:

Growth is not becoming someone else.

Growth is becoming more honestly yourself.

The words glowed.

Then dissolved into starlight.

Cyddie stared at the water.

"So that's the secret?"

Vale nodded.

"I think so."

"Not fixing everything?"

"No."

"Not carrying everyone?"

"No."

"Not being perfect?"

Definitely not."

That made Cyddie laugh.

Together they sat beside the silver pool.

Not because every problem was solved.

Not because life had suddenly become easy.

But because they understood something important.

Truth does not exist to hurt us.

Truth exists to free us.

And when they finally emerged from the hidden tunnel, Crystal Cove seemed brighter somehow.

Velcara was waiting.

Luma was pretending she had absolutely not followed them.

The dragons were asleep.

The stars were shining.

And Cyddie's heart felt a little lighter than before.

Because some adventures are not about finding treasure.

💛

Sometimes the treasure is discovering that you no longer need to carry everything alone.

The End. 🌙💎🐉🦋✨💛

Not a story about pain winning.

A story about truth making room for healing💛
