Cyddie climbed the winding path to the lonely tower, every step heavier than the last. Hope had become a distant memory.
As she crossed the threshold, the last traces of orange in her hair slowly faded. Black spread from her roots to every strand until not a single ember remained. The warm magic that had always answered her call flickered weakly, sputtering like a dying flame. Tiny sparks danced around her fingertips... then, one by one, they were swallowed by shadow.
Silence.
Even beneath the glass dome, her shattered heart continued to beat, but each heartbeat was slower than the one before. The gentle golden glow that had always lived within it faded to a dull grey.
She stood at the tower's lone stone window.
Beyond the purple mist she could see the lands she had once healed. Flowers bloomed where darkness had once ruled. Rivers sparkled beneath the moon.
But she could not bring herself to look toward Crystal Cove.
Not anymore.
A single tear traced down her cheek before disappearing into the darkness.
"Love was meant to be the greatest force for good," she whispered.
"But it cuts deeper than any sword."
The shadows gathered silently around her feet.
"I will allow it no more."
Her voice became unnaturally calm.
"From this moment on..."
"...love is forbidden."
A deafening snap echoed across every kingdom.
From the deepest corners of the Cursed Lands...
Across forgotten forests...
Over crystal mountains...
Through every street and home of Crystal Cove...
Every soul felt it.
Something precious had broken.
The Queen of Hope had fallen.
When Cyddie finally left the tower, the shadows followed like faithful wolves. They wrapped around her boots, her hands, and her cloak, no longer obeying her...
...claiming her.
She walked without a destination, until the familiar bridge to Crystal Cove appeared through the mist.
Home.
She stepped forward.
The first stone cracked beneath her foot.
The second shattered.
The ancient bridge collapsed into nothingness as darkness erupted from below, wrapping around her wrists before she could move another step.
She fought them.
Just once.
But the curse already knew the truth.
It was never meant to imprison the world.
It was meant to protect it.
Her own broken heart would never be allowed to cross into Crystal Cove.
The shadows tightened—not cruelly, but with heartbreaking certainty.
Her pain would never be permitted to poison the home she had built with love.
The curse had become her final safeguard.
Its last promise.
Its greatest act of mercy.
Cyddie fell to her knees as the bridge disappeared forever into the abyss between the two kingdoms.
She was no longer Queen of both lands.
The darkness had sunk its teeth deep into her soul.
This battle belonged to it.
For now.
Far beyond the ruined bridge, Crystal Cove still shimmered beneath the stars, untouched by the curse.
Because someone else now watched over it.
Vale.
As promised, the Storykeeper remained behind to protect the Cove, to guard its stories, its dragons, and the hope that still lived there.
While, across the broken divide, the Cursed Queen turned away from the only home she had ever truly loved...
...and disappeared into the endless mist of the Cursed Lands.
